Welcome to Tokyo Gifted Academy’s website. I hope that this site will introduce you to our exciting educational philosophy and encourage you to come visit our school.
We are dedicated to the idea that students gain their self esteem and confidence through experiencing and mastering challenges, both academic and physical. Young children start this process by exploring their environment concretely through their senses and, as they grow, progress to more abstract thinking, while still needing a variety of stimulating and experiential learning opportunities to support this process.
We support the whole child by providing them with the tools and environment that allows them to take risks, make mistakes, and try again until they master the tasks. Our students are enthusiastic and eager learners who become successful problem-solvers when they participate in a program that emphasizes thinking creatively and rigorously, working with effort and persistence and going beyond the everyday to reach new possibilities.
Within this positive educational environment, we focus on developing skills on core subject areas: math, language arts, social studies, science, history, and Japanese. The curriculum is enriched by adding studies in art, music, technology, dance, and aikido. We also emphasize the development of complex thinking and problem solving skills to encourage our students to life-long learners. But the experience at Tokyo Gifted Academy is so much more than academics. Our students learn and grow in a setting where understanding and mutual respect are modeled and encouraged- a community where civility, gratitude, honesty, kindness, and responsibility are integral parts of every school day and thus infused into the development of each child’s character.
